What's New in Claude · Released 16 September 2026

The deck, the doc and the design now start in Claude.

Since 16 September 2026 you can ask Claude for a design, a deck or a document in any conversation, including in Claude Code, and edit it with Claude or directly. Claude Design makes on-brand visuals, Claude Slides makes presentations, and Claude Docs makes living documents you write with Claude and your team. All three are in beta.

One date matters for larger firms. On Enterprise plans Claude Docs turns on by default on 15 October 2026, and owners can switch it on earlier. That means shared documents, written partly by Claude and shareable by link, arrive in your organization this week whether or not you have decided how they should be used.

What changed

how to use claude docs

What the three do.

From Anthropic’s release notes and help center, linked below.

Claude Docs
A rich-text document saved to your Claude account, with headings, tables and tabs. Claude drafts it on screen, asks clarifying questions first and leaves comments explaining its choices. Teammates with edit access work in it at the same time.
Comments and @Claude
Select text and comment; mention @Claude in a comment and it replies, makes the change and explains it. Every change is attributed to whoever made it, person or Claude.
Permissions
Claude works on a doc only when a signed-in person asks, and only with that person’s permissions. It cannot edit a doc for someone who only has view access.
Charts from your data
Claude can build a chart from a connected app such as Salesforce or Google Sheets. Charts do not refresh on their own; you ask Claude to pull the latest data.
Slides and Design
Claude Slides gives presentations their own starting point. Claude Design supports on-canvas editing and importing your design system.
Enterprise default
On Enterprise plans, Claude Docs turns on by default on 15 October 2026. Owners can turn it on before then in Organization settings, under Artifacts.

What it means

how will claude docs affect my business

What it means for your company.

Most firms already use Claude to draft, then paste the draft into Word or PowerPoint, then lose the thread of who changed what. Docs keeps the draft, the edits and the reasoning in one place, with a record of which lines came from Claude.

Leadership
Internal documents can now be drafted and revised in Claude by a team together. The first ones worth moving are the recurring ones: the weekly status report, the account brief before a call.
Your teams
The attribution on every change makes review faster: the reviewer sees exactly which lines Claude wrote. Charts are snapshots, so a number in a report is only as fresh as the last time someone asked Claude to refresh it.
Risk and compliance
A doc can be shared by link. Decide who may share outside the firm and what may go into a shared doc before 15 October, and put it on the same page as the rest of your AI usage rules.

This week

What to do this week.

Three things, in this order.

Enterprise owners: decide before 15 October
Either turn Docs on now with a short note to staff, or let the default switch it on with the sharing rule already written.
Write the sharing rule
One line on link sharing and one on what may go into a shared doc. If your firm has an AI usage page, it belongs there.
Move one recurring document
Pick the weekly report that takes longest to assemble and build next week’s in Claude Docs, from the connected sources, with the team editing in place.

Questions

The short answers.

The questions people ask about this release, answered in full.

What is Claude Docs?

A rich-text document you write with Claude and your team, saved to your Claude account. Claude drafts it, asks clarifying questions, leaves comments explaining its choices, and edits on request; teammates with access edit at the same time, and every change is attributed.

When does Claude Docs turn on for Enterprise plans?

On 15 October 2026, by default. Owners can turn it on earlier in Organization settings under Artifacts.

Do charts in Claude Docs update automatically?

No. Charts built from a connected app such as Salesforce or Google Sheets are snapshots. To refresh one, ask Claude to pull the latest data.

Can Claude edit a document I only have view access to?

No. Claude always acts with the permissions of the person who asked, so it cannot edit a doc for someone who only has view access.
